Are you experienced in providing Complex Care to children and young people?
Apollo Home Healthcare are seeking experienced Health Care Assistants to support a young boy with complex care needs at his home in West Bromwich.
We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Health Care Assistants who are passionate about their job, enjoy delivering one to one support and who can build positive relationships with our service users and their families.
Our service user is an 8-year-old boy who has a genetic condition called Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS).
He lives at home with his parents and 2 older siblings and attends school during the week, where he enjoys interacting with his friends and teachers.
He is very close to his sisters and loves spending lots of time with them. It is important for his care team to interact with all 3 siblings as they often enjoy playtime activities together. Building communication is very important with this young boy as he is unable to express his feelings and needs verbally however, he is able to follow lights and respond to familiar voices.
When he is happy, he will often smile and clap his hands – he does this when watching his favourite programs on YouTube or playing with musical toys such as his tambourine. Similarly, when he is in pain or unhappy, he may cry, and he can sometimes become frustrated.
His family and current care team can interpret his various facial expressions and are able to distinguish between different cries in order to ascertain what he requires.
It is very important for him to maintain his school life and continue to be included in as many family events as possible. He is especially happy when his family get together for special occasions.
