Dylan - Apollo Home Healthcare

Dylan

Senior Recruitment Consultant – Central Office

In 2014, aged 17, I was doing a media production course at Walsall College. I was just 1 year into my course when I decided I wanted to leave education and get an apprenticeship. I wanted workplace experience whilst working towards an NVQ level 2 qualification.

When looking for an apprenticeship I was keen to work somewhere where I could develop my skills and learn. When I found Apollo Home Healthcare were looking to hire an apprentice, the first thing I did was look through the website, I could immediately see this is somewhere I wanted to work. At the time, my knowledge of complex healthcare was limited, but reading through their website I found it interesting. Being able to help children, adults and young people really attracted me to the role.

My current role at Apollo Home Healthcare is Senior Recruitment Consultant where I support the Recruitment Manager by directing the recruitment teams focus on a day-to-day basis.

Here at Apollo Home Healthcare every day is different and there is no such thing as a typical day which is what makes the role so interesting.

The recruitment team’s main goal is to find and recruit experienced Healthcare Assistants who have the skills and experience we are looking for. Once we have found a Healthcare Assistant with the relevant experience, one of the recruitment team give the candidate a call to invite them in for an interview.

My role is to find candidates with the experience we are looking for using websites such as Indeed, Reed, Facebook and NHS Jobs. Once I find a great candidate who I feel would be a great fit for the role, I ask one of our recruitment team to give them a call and go through the positions we have available.

As the senior member of the recruitment team, I also support my manager with the day to day running and management of the recruitment team. I help by directing the recruitment teams focus so they know exactly what we need to do to meet our recruitment needs for our service users across the business.

What I love about this role the most is the difference I can make to somebody’s life, whether it is getting a service user discharged from hospital, reuniting them with their family or providing young children with the day-to-day care and support they need to give them the best life possible and to help relieve the pressure and stress on the parents.

We want to provide our service users with the best Healthcare Assistants. This can make it challenging to find the right candidates with everything we are looking for. To help with this we offer Healthcare Assists the opportunity to upskill, train and develop into complex clinical care.

After one year of training and development as an apprentice I was offered a full-time position as a Recruitment and Compliance Consultant and was over the moon with excitement to be given the opportunity to continue my journey at Apollo Home Healthcare.

After 2 years in that role, I was asked to go into recruitment full time, which was perfect for me as I really enjoyed the recruitment side of my role.

One year later I was offered the opportunity to become the Senior Recruitment Consultant of the recruitment team. This is such a huge achievement for me, starting as a young 17-year-old apprentice to then 4 years later becoming the senior of the recruitment team filled me with joy.

At the time of writing this I continue to grow and develop in my role of Senior Recruitment Consultant and I’m still filled with excitement to continue my journey with Apollo Home Healthcare.

Working here has given me the best life experience and since applying for the role as an apprentice I have never looked back.

I appreciate all the support, training I have been given whilst employed with you. …I feel in my time with you I was supported in delivering care to a high standard.
